Here is something most people do not realize about surgery: the result you see the week after is not the final result. After liposuction, BodyTite, or skin removal, the skin keeps remodeling for months. Collagen is laid down, reorganized, and tightened long after the incisions close. How well that process goes decides a lot about how the skin looks and feels.
That is why I pay so much attention to one small molecule: GHK-Cu.
What GHK-Cu is
GHK is a tiny peptide, just three amino acids, that your body makes naturally. It is found in your blood, saliva, and urine, and it has a strong attraction to copper. Bound together, they form GHK-Cu, the copper peptide.
It was discovered in human blood in the 1970s, when researchers noticed that something in young people’s blood helped older tissue behave younger. Here is the catch: your levels of GHK fall steadily with age, and by your sixties they are a fraction of what they were in your twenties. That decline tracks closely with the things we notice in aging skin.
How it works
1. It rebuilds the framework
Collagen and elastin are the scaffolding that keeps skin firm and springy. GHK-Cu signals the cells that make them, called fibroblasts, to produce more, along with the moisture-holding molecules that give skin its fullness.
2. It remodels, not just builds
This is what makes it special. Scar tissue is collagen laid down in a hurry, thick and disorganized. GHK-Cu helps the skin break down that disorganized collagen and replace it with better-organized tissue. It is less like adding more bricks and more like having a mason rebuild the wall properly.
3. It delivers copper where it is needed
Copper is essential to the enzyme that links collagen fibers together, which is what makes collagen strong. GHK-Cu carries copper right to the cells that need it.
4. It calms and protects
GHK-Cu also has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, and supports new blood vessel growth, all of which help healing tissue recover more cleanly.
What the research shows
GHK-Cu has more human research behind it than most peptides, mostly with creams applied to the skin. In small clinical studies, GHK-Cu creams improved firmness, skin density, and fine lines over about 12 weeks, in some cases comparing well against other common anti-aging ingredients. The evidence for injections comes mainly from laboratory and animal work.
How I use it
- After body contouring and skin surgery, once incisions have fully closed, to support the months of remodeling that follow.
- For scars, new or old, where the goal is softer, flatter, better-organized tissue.
- For everyday skin quality: firmness, texture, and fine lines on the face and neck.
Cream or injection?
For most skin goals, I start with the creams and serums. That is where the human evidence is strongest, and they go exactly where you want them. Ours are 3% GHK-Cu, some combined with niacinamide, SNAP-8, or low-dose estriol for added benefit.
The injection works from the inside and suits bigger goals, like recovery after surgery or broader skin and tissue support. It stings briefly for a few seconds, which is normal. For surgical recovery, the Recovery Blend combines GHK-Cu with BPC-157, TB-500, and KPV.
What to expect
Skin changes are slow, because collagen is slow. Most people notice firmer, smoother skin after 8 to 12 weeks of daily use. Scars keep improving for months. And whatever you use, daily sunscreen protects the collagen you are building; it is the single best partner for any skin treatment.
